Joyalukkas opens world’s biggest jewellery showroom in Chennai

CHENNAI MARCH 17: Joy Alukkas, a leader in jewellery business with 65 showrooms in nine countries, opened a multi-faceted international jewellery showroom in T. Nagar in Chennai on March 16.

The group already has presence in Tamil Nadu with showrooms in Madurai, Salem, Tirunelveli and Coimbatore. The Chennai outlet is a milestone in the 52 years of existence of the group.

After Chennai, Joy Alukkas is set to open showrooms in Mumbai and Ahmedabad and has plans to open over 100 showrooms by 2010.

The Chennai showroom is spread over 70,000 square feet occupying four floors and comprising of more than a million designs.

The world’s biggest jewellery showroom was inaugurated on March 16, Sunday by eminent dignitaries.

The gold section was unveiled by Mr Philip Oldan, Managing Director, Marketing and Jewellery, of World Gold Council, London, UK and the diamond section by Mr Roland Lorie, CEO, International Gemological Institute, Antwerp, Belgium.

The inauguration also witnessed the presence of prominent diplomats, industrialists & cine stars. The array of gold jewellery at the Joyalukkas’ Chennai showroom is showcased in two floors; diamonds and platinum jewellery take over one floor and silver and precious stones such as Green Tourmaline, Pink Tourmaline, Black Tourmaline, Quartz, Topaz, Ruby, Sapphire, Pearls, etc.

Though this is their first time in Chennai, they are not in unfamiliar territory since they have a good presence in Tamil Nadu with showrooms at Madurai, Salem, Tirunelveli and Coimbatore.

They are a household name among the expatriate population as well as NRI population in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries besides India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Philippines and other Asian countries, due to the reputation earned from their quality and designs.

On this occasion of the inauguration, the Joyalukkas Group is organizing a grand carnival over a period of one month from the inauguration day. The carnival will witness the presence of numerous stalls comprising of food stalls, tattoo, mehendi and various other activities. The carnival is being organized to give the Chennai shoppers an international shopping experience and is aimed at being the one-stop jewellery destination in the city.

This Chennai showroom is a milestone in the eventful 52 years of existence of Joyalukkas Group, which was established in 1956. With the opening of their first showroom in the Gulf in 1987, there has been no turning back and they have achieved enormous growth, with over 50 stores in the GCC countries alone and have also made their presence felt in New York and London.
