KOCHI,Aug 17: A man was beaten to death and his body set ablaze at Rayamangalam under Kurupampady police station limits near Perumbavoor on Thursday morning. Kurupampady police said the half-burnt body was found in a small bush near the road by the residents of the locality. The police team shifted the body to Alappuzha Medical College for autopsy.
Police said there were deep wounds on the head of the victim and the assailants had used petrol to burn the body.
"We have collected statements from the nearby residents, but none of them had heard any sound or seen fire at the spot. A forensic team will visit the crime scene to collect evidence," said Kurupampady circle inspector G S Crispin Sam.
Officials said they have identified the victim as Hyder Ali, a taxi driver of Perumbavoor.
"We are trying to collect more details about the person. We suspect that the assailants might have brought the body to the spot from somewhere else and set it on fire at the spot," the officials said and added that they are trying to trace the mobile phone call details of the victim.
