Pongala issue: Police request to withdraw case dismissed by court

Thiruvananthapuram March 13: The Court dismissed the petition filed by the Thampanoor police to withdraw the case filed against women for offering pongala. The petition was rejected on technical grounds. The court ruled that the police plea to withdraw case need to be examined in detail.

However, the court accepted the petition filed by Fort police to nullify the case against the women who offered pongala. The court said that the Thampanoor police can again file a petition. The government had interfeared and freezed the case on Monday itself following the controversy it created. The official, Thiruvananthapuram Deputy Commissioner of Police V.C. Mohanan, was suspended for going ahead in registering the case.

Mohanan had filed cases against the women who were sitting on the roads in front of two police stations in the area.
